WaterSaver Incentive Programs for Commercial, Industrial and Multi-unit Properties
1) WaterSaver Program for ICI & Multi-unit Residential Toilet Replacement

February 24, 2006 -- Replace water guzzling toilets with water efficient models and the City will pay you:

1. $60 per low flow six-litre toilet installed.
2. $75 per high efficiency toilet installed.
3. $100 per 3.8 litre toilet or urinal.
4. $150 per rear-exit six-litre or less toilet installed.

To be eligible for the program:

your building must be classified as a multi-unit residential* or an industrial, commercial or institutional property located in the City of Toronto (includes retail outlet, office, government, school, hotel, hospital, factory, warehouse, manufacturer).

your building must be the sole destination of the water passing through the water meter
*Note: multi-unit residential buildings must have seven or more units.

How the program works

Selected applicants will be notified in writing. Once notified, selected applicants will have 120 days to work with a licenced City of Toronto plumber or contractor to install City-selected toilets and provide the City with:

the unaltered and dated sales receipt for the approved number of six-litre toilets showing the make and model

a signed Building Toilet Inventory List (PDF) showing the location (suite number, floor number) and the make, model and number of six-litre toilets installed at that location.

2) WaterSaver Program for Multi-unit Buildings and Businesses

The next washer you buy or lease for your building will have an enormous effect on the amount of water used and paid for by your business. A water-efficient washer can lower the cost of your annual water and energy bills by as much as $275 per washing machine*. It also helps to reduce water use. That's why the City will give you up to $125 to manage the cost of each new City-selected commercial washer that you buy or lease for your business.

*Estimate provided for communal laundry rooms.

Cash incentive amounts

High-efficiency washers use about 60 per cent less energy and 40 per cent less water than conventional top-loading washer. The washing machine is the second biggest water-user in most households; only the toilet uses more water.

The Washer Rebate Program offers two levels of incentives:

Leased washing machines

Property owners receive $100 cash back for each new qualifying washer that has been leased and installed in your facility. The route operators with whom you have a valid lease agreement may be eligible to receive $25 per leased washer.

Purchased washer

Receive $125 cash back for the purchase and installation of each new qualifying washer in your facility.

Who is eligible?

Owners of multi-unit residential properties
Public and private institutions with common-area laundries
Coin laundry stores
Businesses with on-premise washing machines (i.e. beauty salons, health clubs)
Route operators with valid lease agreements with participating facilities
Participating facilities must have a City of Toronto water account and a water meter.
